Most guests arrive in Pokhara and think they have reached Gandaki, but Pokhara is only the entrance. Behind it lie the full Annapurna Circuit, the Kali Gandaki gorge (the deepest on earth), the sacred temple of Muktinath at 3,800 meters, and beyond all of that Upper Mustang, the walled kingdom that was closed to outsiders until 1992, still requires a special permit, and still limits the number of visitors each year.
