Hill villages above Pokhara, with the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre in view on clear mornings.

This is a sample private itinerary, not a fixed departure. Sam and Gyalgin plan the route, pace and stays around you before you book. Walking times and transfer allowances are estimates. Weather can change the plan and mountain views are not guaranteed.

Spend two nights at Sarangkot, one at Dhampus and two at Ghandruk. Roads carry the longer transfers rather than a continuous trekking route. The two-night stays leave time to rest and more than one chance for a clear morning.

This is an Annapurna and Machhapuchhre trip, not an Everest trip or an Annapurna Base Camp trek. Short village walks are mostly optional, but uneven steps and lodge approaches remain. Australian Camp and the steep Phedi staircase are not in this sample.

The plan uses hill lodges with private rooms and meals at the lodge. We discuss bathroom arrangements, heating and final entrance steps before booking. The Ghandruk village and lodge elevations differ: the sample uses about 2,012 m for sleeping and about 2,050 m as its high-point allowance, with the exact route in your agreed plan.

Road travel, rafting, wildlife activities and travel in remote places carry risks of illness, injury and death. Experienced staff, briefings and equipment reduce risk but cannot eliminate it. Your itinerary identifies your guide team, including Sherpa guides on Himalayan routes, and the support and equipment included.

Comprehensive travel insurance is a condition of every booking. Your policy must cover emergency medical treatment, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation and interruption, and repatriation. Confirm with your insurer that it covers your itinerary's activities and maximum altitude, including technical climbing, rafting, helicopter evacuation and search and rescue where applicable. Provide proof before departure. Consider obtaining cover when you book because some benefits have purchase deadlines.

  • Private journey deposit: 30% of the trip price for bookings more than 90 days before departure
  • Final balance: Due 90 days before departure. Bookings made 90 days or fewer before departure are paid in full at booking.
  • Our conditions promise: A qualifying Nepal advisory change or trek-region closure within 60 days of departure lets you move dates free or take full credit for 24 months.

8 Days in the Pokhara Hills

Day 1: Kathmandu

Day 2: Pokhara flight and Sarangkot transfer

Day 3: Sarangkot

Day 4: Dhampus

Days 5-6: Ghandruk

Day 7: Return via Pokhara to Kathmandu

Day 8: Departure

Day by Day

This is a sample private itinerary, not a fixed departure. Sam and Gyalgin plan the route, pace and stays around you before you book. Walking times and transfer allowances are estimates. Weather can change the plan and mountain views are not guaranteed.

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu

Transfer to the hotel. Discuss walking, luggage and dietary preferences. Walking: 0-0.5 hour. Sleep and daytime high: about 1,400 m. Dinner indoors.

Day 2: Pokhara and Sarangkot

The sample uses a Kathmandu-Pokhara flight, then an uphill road transfer. Allow roughly 0.5-1 hour for the hill transfer, depending on traffic and the chosen lodge. Walking: 0-1 hour. Planned sleep and high point: about 1,600 m, with the exact road and property in your final plan. Meals at the lodge.

Day 3: A day at Sarangkot

Look out from the lodge area in the morning if skies are clear. Choose a short outing later or stay at the lodge. No mandatory hike to the public sunrise lookout. Walking: 0.5-1.5 optional hours. Planned sleep and daytime high: about 1,600 m. Meals at the lodge.

Day 4: Dhampus

Drive toward the chosen Dhampus lodge, allowing about 1.5-2.5 hours for the approach from the Pokhara area. Discuss the last steps or footpath before booking. Optional village lanes replace a long uphill trek. Walking: 0.5-2 hours. Planned sleep: about 1,650 m; the road high point depends on the approach. Meals at the lodge. No Australian Camp or Phedi staircase outing.

Day 5: Road transfer to Ghandruk

Travel by the valley road, not a quick ridge drive. Allow about 3-5 hours, depending on the route and road. A short final approach can involve steps; luggage handling is agreed separately. Walking: 0.5-1.5 hours. Planned lodge sleep: about 2,012 m; high-point allowance about 2,050 m. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 6: Time in Ghandruk

A second morning for the mountains, with an optional village or museum visit. Rest at the lodge if that suits you better. Walking: 0.5-2 hours. Planned sleep: about 2,012 m; daytime high at or below the 2,050 m sample allowance. Meals at the lodge.

Day 7: Return to Kathmandu

Drive to Pokhara and use the domestic flight agreed in the plan. Leave early for road delays rather than promising a precise connection. Walking: 0-0.5 hour. Sleep around 1,400 m after returning; start around 2,012 m. Road high points depend on the route. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer to the airport. Walking: 0-0.5 hour. No overnight stay. This eight-day sample has no spare Kathmandu buffer day; discuss an extra night before ticketing if you need more room for domestic flight disruption.

From $5,675 per person. Based on two travelers sharing a room. International flights are not included. Final price depends on dates and the plan agreed.

Included in the sample price

  • The quoted plan sets out breakfasts, planned lunches and dinners, Sherpa guide and driver services, two domestic flight sectors and applicable route entry fees.
  • Luggage handling and lodge entrance steps are discussed before booking. Meals are at the lodge, not a private camp or exclusive public viewpoint.

A sample plan, made private

Five nights in the Pokhara hills, with Annapurna and Machhapuchhre views when clear, lodge meals and short optional walks. A sample private plan, not a base camp trek.

Lead photo: Machhapuchhre in the Annapurna region. This is not an Everest trip.

  • Longest walking day: Up to 2 hours, mostly optional village walks
  • Highest overnight: About 2,012 m (6,601 ft)
  • Daytime high point: About 2,050 m (6,726 ft), planned high point
  • Transport: Pokhara flights and road-supported hill transfers

Before you choose

Most walks are optional, but uneven steps and lodge approaches remain. Five nights in the hills, planned below about 2,100 m, with road transfers between stays. No Australian Camp hike or Phedi staircase is part of this sample.

What a private plan changes

Your party travels on its own plan. We discuss your dates, walking limits and interests, then work through the route and room choices with you. A day at the lodge can take the place of an optional outing.

Private does not mean the trail or mountain belongs to you. Weather, access and altitude still set limits. On the Everest trek, the steep Namche climb is part of the route and rest time cannot be traded for a faster ascent.

Luggage handling, vehicle approaches and flight arrangements are set out in the plan before you book. You do not have to design the trip from scratch.

Stays and meals

The samples use private lodge rooms in the mountains and a hotel in Kathmandu, not a moving camp. Tell us what matters most to you, such as bathroom arrangements, room heating or how many steps lead to the room. We put the chosen room standard in your plan.

Meals are at the lodge, with menus and dietary needs discussed while planning. These are lodge-based trips, not private camps or outdoor ridge dinners.

Two travelers sharing a room are the basis of the from prices. A single room, an extra buffer night or a changed route can change the quote.

Plan with our family

Sam and Gyalgin Sherpa, son and father, run SherpaHolidays. Sam is based in the US. You speak with the family about the trip, not a call center.

Gyalgin worked on Everest. His father, San Tsopel Sherpa, helped Hillary's school-building work.

Sam's grandfather, Gyalgin's father, San Tsopel Sherpa: Cooked for Sir Edmund Hillary and his team throughout their work building schools for the Sherpa community.

Things guests ask before booking

Straight answers about walking, altitude and how we plan this trip.

  • No. This sample stays at Sarangkot, Dhampus and Ghandruk in the lower Pokhara hills, using road support between stays. The long base camp walking route is not included.

  • Usually up to two hours in short, mostly optional village outings. Uneven steps and final lodge approaches still matter. Tell us your walking and stair limits so we can discuss them before booking.

  • This trip is for Annapurna and Machhapuchhre views, not Everest. Cloud and weather can hide the mountains. Two-night stays offer more chances to look, not a clear-view guarantee.

  • That is a separate uphill outing, commonly 1.5-2 hours from Kande before the return. It is not in this Easy sample. We would discuss its walking demand and price with you before adding it.

  • No blanket promise is made. We discuss the exact room, bathroom, heating and entrance steps, then put the chosen standard in your plan. The sample stays in lodges, not tents.

  • The eight-day sample has no spare Kathmandu buffer day after the domestic return. Discuss an extra night before buying international tickets if you need more room for flight or road disruption. Delay arrangements are set out in the quote.

  • Solu and Pokhara are short-walk tour plans. Pokhara uses roads between hill stays, with mostly optional walks of up to two hours. Solu uses a lodge base and a viewpoint selected around your walking limit. Uneven ground and steps can still be involved. Neither is described as wheelchair-accessible.

  • Solu plans to sleep around 2,400 m, with a viewpoint allowance up to about 3,350 m. Pokhara plans to sleep around 2,012 m at its highest lodge, with a high-point allowance about 2,050 m. Everest View sleeps at 3,440 m and visits 3,880 m for the day. Exact Solu and Pokhara elevations depend on the final route and lodge. Sleeping lower after a day visit does not remove altitude risk.

  • No. These are sample plans, not scheduled departures. Mountain views and flights depend on conditions. We agree the transport plan, buffer time and disruption costs before booking. Solu and Everest include return-travel buffer time; the eight-day Pokhara sample has no spare Kathmandu buffer day, so discuss an extra night before ticketing.

  • Tell us the time of year, who is traveling and how much walking feels comfortable. Room and bathroom preferences help too. The inquiry costs nothing. Sam or Gyalgin replies personally, then discusses fit and the plan with you before a final quote.
